PT Vale Indonesia Tbk operates the Sorowako nickel laterite mine in South Sulawesi, one of the world's largest nickel deposits, producing nickel matte exported primarily to Japan for refining into battery-grade nickel. Vale S.A. of Brazil has been reducing its controlling interest following renegotiation of its contract of work with the Indonesian government, with state mining holding company MIND ID increasing its ownership stake. INCO is positioned as a key beneficiary of global nickel demand from the electric vehicle battery supply chain.
