Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is India's largest and oldest aerospace and defence manufacturer, producing military aircraft, helicopters, jet engines, avionics, and space systems. It is a Navratna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence and is the principal manufacturer of the indigenously developed Tejas Light Combat Aircraft. HAL plays a central role in India's defence indigenisation programme.
