Economy & industry overview

Morocco is a lower-middle-income economy in North Africa with a diversified base spanning phosphate mining and processing, automotive manufacturing, aeronautics, agriculture, tourism, and financial services. It holds the world's largest known phosphate reserves and is the leading global exporter of phosphate rock and derivatives through state-owned OCP. The country has attracted significant foreign direct investment in automotive and aerospace supply chains, with major plants serving European manufacturers. Remittances from the Moroccan diaspora and tourism receipts are important sources of foreign exchange. Morocco is co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup and has undertaken large-scale infrastructure investment programmes in transport, energy, and green hydrogen.

Relocation & residency

Investment visa / residency programme

Grants No formal investment-migration programme

Morocco does not operate a formal residency-by-investment or citizenship-by-investment programme equivalent to a 'golden visa'. Foreign nationals may obtain residency permits through standard channels including employment, business establishment, or property ownership, but there is no structured investment-migration scheme with a defined minimum threshold granting automatic residency or citizenship.

Need help applying? Specialist investment-migration advisers such as Henley & Partners.

Foreign-investor access

Foreign nationals can obtain a one-year renewable residency card (carte de séjour) by demonstrating legal presence and sufficient income or employment. There are no minimum investment thresholds for residency by investment. Morocco has a relatively low cost of living and a growing expatriate community, particularly in Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakech. Property can be purchased by foreigners, and capital transfers related to property investment are permitted under foreign exchange regulations.
