Wirtschafts- und Branchenüberblick

Vietnam is a socialist-oriented market economy in Southeast Asia that has sustained average real GDP growth of approximately 6–8% per year over recent decades, driven by export-oriented manufacturing, electronics, textiles, footwear, and agriculture. The country has emerged as a major global manufacturing hub, particularly benefiting from supply-chain diversification away from China, attracting significant foreign direct investment. Key export partners include the United States, China, the European Union, South Korea, and Japan, with electronics and machinery comprising the largest share of exports. Vietnam's stock market is classified as a frontier/emerging market, with the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) as the primary exchange, dominated by the finance, real estate, and consumer staples sectors. The government continues to pursue Doi Moi-era reform policies, and the country is actively seeking an upgrade to emerging-market status from index providers such as FTSE Russell.

Lokaler Brokerzugang

Foreign investors must open a securities trading account and a foreign indirect investment (FII) capital account at a licensed custodian bank in Vietnam. Direct brokerage access is available through local brokers such as SSI Securities, VNDirect, and HSC (Ho Chi Minh City Securities). International investors can also gain exposure via the US-listed VanEck Vietnam ETF (VNM). Foreign ownership limits (FOL) apply to most listed equities, typically capped at 49% of charter capital, though some companies have voted to raise or remove the cap. Pre-funding requirements for foreign investors have been progressively relaxed as Vietnam pursues an emerging-market index upgrade.

Umzug & Aufenthalt

Investment-Visa / Residenzprogramm

Förderprogramme No formal investment-migration programme

Vietnam does not operate a formal golden visa or citizenship/residency-by-investment programme equivalent to those found in the EU or Caribbean. Foreigners may obtain long-term visas (up to 5 years) tied to investment or business activities, and a temporary residence card (TRC) may be issued to foreign investors who hold a valid investment certificate. There is no standardised minimum investment threshold that automatically confers permanent residency or citizenship.

Zugang für ausländische Investoren

Foreign nationals can obtain temporary residence cards (TRC) valid for 1–5 years linked to business registration or investment. Full permanent residency and citizenship pathways for foreigners are highly restricted under Vietnamese law. Foreign ownership of real estate is limited (50-year leasehold) and foreign ownership in listed companies is capped at 49% in most sectors (with some exceptions). Income tax for residents is progressive up to 35%; non-residents pay a flat 20% on Vietnam-sourced income.

VinFast Auto Ltd (VFS) is listed on the Nasdaq via a SPAC merger and represents the most prominent US-listed vehicle with Vietnamese operational exposure, though it is incorporated in Singapore.
VinFast Auto LtdVFSN/A (incorporated in Singapore, listed on Nasdaq)VinFast is Vietnam's first domestic electric vehicle manufacturer and a subsidiary of Vingroup. It completed a US Nasdaq listing via SPAC merger in August 2023. The holding company is incorporated in Singapore, not Vietnam, so it does not constitute a traditional ADR but provides US investors with direct operational exposure to a major Vietnamese industrial enterprise.
