Economy & industry overview

Peru is the sixth-largest economy in Latin America, with a nominal GDP of approximately USD 289 billion in 2024. The economy is heavily driven by mining — particularly copper, gold, silver, and zinc — which dominate export earnings and the Bolsa de Valores de Lima. Services account for roughly half of GDP, while agriculture (including agro-exports such as asparagus, grapes, and blueberries), fishing, and natural gas are additional pillars. Peru holds significant natural resource potential and maintains a broad web of trade agreements, though recurring political instability has weighed on investor confidence and growth since 2020. Real GDP rebounded to an estimated 3.0–3.2% growth in 2024 after a mild contraction in 2023.

Grants No formal investment-migration programme

Peru does not operate a formal golden visa or citizenship-by-investment programme. However, foreign nationals may obtain temporary or permanent residency by demonstrating sufficient economic ties, including through investment in local businesses or real estate, under general immigration law (Legislative Decree No. 1350).
