Panorama económico e industrial

Bahrain is a small island kingdom in the Arabian Gulf with a nominal GDP of approximately $49 billion in 2025, anchored by financial services, aluminium smelting, and residual oil revenues. The country is recognised as the primary banking and Islamic finance hub of the Gulf, hosting hundreds of licensed financial institutions and a growing fintech sector. Non-oil activities contributed roughly 86% of GDP in 2025, reflecting a decades-long diversification drive under the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. Real GDP growth is estimated at 3.8% for 2025, supported by the non-oil sector expanding at around 4.5% following the ramp-up of the Bapco Modernisation Programme. The Bahrain Bourse lists approximately 36 companies across banking, materials, telecom, real estate, and services sectors, with the exchange's total market capitalisation at roughly BHD 7.6 billion (approximately $20 billion) in early 2025.

Acceso a brókers locales

As of early 2026, there are no dedicated single-country Bahrain ETFs listed in the US, and both major frontier markets ETFs (iShares FM and Invesco FRN) have been liquidated. Direct access to Bahrain-listed equities requires an account with a broker offering GCC market access; Interactive Brokers provides access to the Bahrain Bourse for international investors. Some Bahrain names such as GFH Financial Group are cross-listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM), which may be more accessible. Foreign investors can hold shares on the Bahrain Bourse without ownership caps in most sectors. Settlement is in Bahraini Dinars, which is pegged to the US Dollar at a fixed rate of 1 BHD = 2.659 USD.

Visado de inversión / programa de residencia

Subvenciones Long-term residency (10-year renewable)

Bahrain launched its Golden Residency Visa programme in 2022, originally targeting high-net-worth property investors, skilled professionals, and retirees. In December 2025, Bahrain reduced the real estate investment threshold by 35%, lowering it from BHD 200,000 (approximately $530,000) to BHD 130,000 (approximately $345,000). The visa grants a 10-year renewable residency and includes work flexibility, unlimited entry, family sponsorship, and full business ownership rights. Applications are processed through the Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs (NPRA) portal within 5-10 working days. Eligibility also extends to professionals earning at least BHD 2,000/month with 5 years Bahrain service, retirees with pensions above BHD 2,000, and entrepreneurs or individuals with recognised contributions to the national economy.

Acceso para inversores extranjeros

Bahrain is one of the most open GCC economies for foreign investment. The 2025 Foreign Direct Investment reforms (Decree-Law No. 38 of 2025) allow 100% foreign ownership across the vast majority of business activities, with only a limited list of sectors requiring 51% Bahraini ownership. Foreign investors can purchase shares on the Bahrain Bourse without general ownership caps; however, individual listed companies may have company-specific foreign ownership limits disclosed on the Bourse's website. Land ownership by non-GCC foreigners is permitted in designated freehold zones. There is no personal income tax, no capital gains tax, and no withholding tax on dividends for investors. The Bahraini Dinar is pegged to the US Dollar, eliminating exchange rate risk for USD-denominated investors.
