Oman is a high-income, oil-dependent economy on the southeastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, with hydrocarbons accounting for roughly half of GDP and the majority of government revenues. The sultanate has been actively diversifying under its Vision 2040 strategy, targeting growth in tourism, logistics, manufacturing, and financial services. The Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) has expanded significantly, reflecting a wave of IPOs and capital market reforms undertaken since 2021. Oman maintains a fixed exchange rate peg of approximately 0.3845 OMR per US dollar, providing monetary stability. Foreign investors can access Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX)-listed equities through international brokers offering GCC market access (e.g., Interactive Brokers, EFG Hermes, SICO), or directly through locally licensed Omani brokerage firms registered with the Capital Market Authority (CMA) of Oman. Foreigners must open a trading account with an MSX-registered broker and obtain an investor number via the Muscat Clearing and Depository (MCD). Foreign ownership limits apply per company, typically capped at 70% aggregate foreign ownership, though some strategic sectors have lower limits.

Oman has expanded its integrated tourism complex (ITC) zones, allowing foreign nationals to own freehold property in designated areas. A residency permit tied to property or investment qualifies holders to live, work (with applicable work permit), and access public services.
