Bahrain is a small island nation in the Persian Gulf with a high-income, diversified economy anchored by financial services, aluminium smelting, petroleum refining, and tourism. It is one of the region's leading Islamic and offshore banking hubs, hosting hundreds of financial institutions regulated by the Central Bank of Bahrain. Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), the world's largest single-site aluminium smelter outside China, is a cornerstone of the industrial sector and the largest company listed on the Bahrain Bourse. The government's Economic Vision 2030 aims to reduce oil dependency and grow the private sector, with a particular emphasis on fintech, logistics, and tourism. The Bahraini dinar has maintained a fixed peg to the US dollar since 1980.

Bahrain is considered one of the more accessible Gulf states for expatriates and foreign professionals. There is no personal income tax. The cost of living is generally lower than Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Foreign nationals can own freehold property in designated areas. The country operates a Flexi-Permit allowing expatriates to work for multiple employers, and a self-sponsorship visa exists for financially independent individuals. English is widely spoken in business. A robust financial services ecosystem and a relatively liberal social environment make it attractive for international workers and entrepreneurs.
