Aperçu économique et sectoriel

Burkina Faso is a landlocked, low-income country in West Africa classified as a least developed economy. Agriculture accounts for roughly 31% of GDP, employing an estimated 90% of the labour force, with cotton and livestock as key export commodities. Gold is the dominant export by value and a major driver of foreign exchange earnings, alongside manganese and other minerals. The services sector (approx. 45% of GDP) is anchored by telecommunications, trade, and financial services. The economy faces structural challenges including security instability, poverty (over 40% of the population below the poverty line), and dependence on rain-fed agriculture.

Accès aux courtiers locaux

Burkina Faso does not have its own domestic stock exchange. Equities of Burkina Faso-headquartered companies are traded on the BRVM (Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières), the regional exchange for the eight WAEMU/UEMOA member states, physically headquartered in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. The BRVM operates entirely digitally via a satellite network, allowing licensed broker-dealers (Sociétés de Gestion et d'Intermédiation — SGI) across all member states to access the market. Foreign investors can open accounts through a locally licensed SGI or through international brokers that provide sub-custodian access to the BRVM. Liquidity is thin for Burkina Faso-listed names; settlement moved to T+2 in December 2025. No US broker is known to offer direct self-directed retail access to the BRVM.

Burkina Faso does not operate a residency-by-investment or citizenship-by-investment programme. Foreign nationals generally require a standard visa or residency permit issued through normal immigration channels. As of mid-2026, the country is under a military transitional government following coups in 2022, and several governments maintain active travel advisories due to ongoing security concerns in large parts of the country.
