Burkina Faso is a landlocked, low-income West African country whose economy is dominated by subsistence agriculture, employing the vast majority of the labour force. Gold is the principal export earner, followed by cotton and livestock; artisanal and industrial mining have expanded significantly since the 2000s. The services sector, including telecommunications and trade, accounts for roughly 45% of GDP. The country has faced severe security challenges since 2015, with ongoing jihadist insurgency displacing large portions of the population and disrupting economic activity in the Sahel and eastern regions. Burkina Faso uses the CFA franc, shares monetary policy with seven other WAEMU states, and accesses capital markets through the regional BRVM exchange based in Abidjan.

No US broker provides direct BRVM access; frontier-market specialist brokers or regional SGI members must be used. Burkina Faso is under a state of emergency in large parts of the country due to ongoing jihadist insurgency. Most Western governments advise against all or all but essential travel to significant portions of the national territory. No investment-based residency pathway exists; standard immigration requires work or study visas issued through Burkinabè diplomatic missions.
