Ghana is a lower-middle-income West African economy whose key export earners are gold, crude oil, and cocoa. Real GDP grew 5.8% in 2024 and expanded approximately 6% in 2025, driven by services and agriculture recovery, as well as strong gold exports. The country underwent a comprehensive debt restructuring from 2022 onward under an IMF recovery programme, with headline inflation falling sharply from a 2022 peak above 50% to roughly 3–5% by early-to-mid 2026. The services sector is the largest contributor to GDP, followed by industry (including mining and oil) and agriculture. Ghana attained middle-income status in 2011 and hosts one of West Africa's most active capital markets via the Ghana Stock Exchange.

Direct retail access to the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) is generally restricted to accounts opened with a licensed Ghanaian broker or through a local nominee arrangement. Foreign investors may participate directly but must comply with SEC Ghana regulations and may be subject to repatriation procedures. Platforms such as MyStocks.Africa facilitate access for non-resident investors without requiring a local GHS bank account. Alternatively, international exposure to Ghanaian equities can be obtained via Africa-focused or frontier-market ETFs listed in the US. Settlement on the GSE is T+3 through the Central Securities Depository (CSD) Ghana. There are no US-listed ADRs for purely Ghanaian companies as of 2024–2025; AngloGold Ashanti (formerly dual-listed on the GSE) now primarily trades on NYSE.

Ghana's 'Year of Return' diaspora programme offers Right of Abode for persons of African descent. The cost of living in Accra is moderate by African capital standards; expatriate housing and international schooling add significant costs. Healthcare infrastructure is developing, and private international-standard clinics are available in Accra.
