Jordan is an upper-middle-income economy in the Southern Levant with a nominal GDP of approximately $53.4 billion as of 2024. The economy is services-dominated, with banking, tourism, phosphate and potash mining, pharmaceuticals, and information technology serving as principal industries. The country is a net energy importer with limited natural resources beyond mineral wealth, and relies significantly on foreign aid, remittances, and multilateral lending. Jordan hosts a large refugee population that places additional pressure on public finances and labour markets. The Jordanian dinar has been pegged to the US dollar since 1995, providing monetary stability but limiting exchange-rate flexibility.

Non-Jordanian investors face no blanket restriction on owning listed shares, though sector-specific foreign ownership caps apply (notably in banking and certain strategic industries). Settlement is T+2. International investors may also access Jordanian equities indirectly through frontier-market or MENA-focused ETFs. Direct online access for retail foreign investors is limited; engagement is typically through a local broker or a regional prime broker.

Jordan permits foreign nationals to establish businesses and own property in qualifying zones. Residency permits are generally tied to employment, business ownership, or family status. The Jordan Investment Commission facilitates investor registration and can assist with multi-year residency for qualifying investors. Cost of living in Amman is moderate relative to Gulf cities. Arabic is the official language; English is widely spoken in business and professional contexts.
