Visão geral da economia e do setor

Kenya is East Africa's largest economy and a regional hub for finance, technology, and logistics, with services accounting for approximately 53% of GDP. The agriculture sector, including tea, horticulture, and coffee, remains a key foreign-exchange earner and employs the majority of the rural workforce. The mobile money platform M-Pesa, operated by Safaricom, has made Kenya a global reference point for financial technology and digital payments. Tourism, manufacturing, and a growing information and communications technology sector further diversify economic output. Kenya is a member of the East African Community (EAC), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and COMESA, providing broad regional market access.

Foreign investors may trade NSE-listed equities through licensed stockbrokers and investment banks regulated by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) of Kenya. Non-resident investors are permitted to hold and trade listed securities without prior CMA approval. Repatriation of capital and dividends by foreign investors is generally permitted under Kenya's liberalised foreign exchange regime. Settlement is T+3. Some international online brokers offer access to NSE equities via direct market access or depository receipts. There are no dedicated single-country Kenya ETFs listed in the US; regional Africa-focused ETFs provide indirect exposure.

Relocalização e residência

Concessões Temporary residency (renewable) via Class G Investment Permit

Kenya does not operate a formal golden visa or citizenship-by-investment programme. Foreign nationals may obtain a Class G (Investment) Permit under the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act by making a qualifying investment in a Kenyan enterprise, typically a minimum of USD 100,000 in paid-up capital in an active business. This permit grants temporary residency (renewable) tied to the continued existence and operation of the investment. Separate permanent residency and citizenship pathways exist but are not structured as investment-migration products in the conventional sense.

Acesso para investidores estrangeiros

Kenya accepts foreign residents under several permit categories including investment, employment, and dependent passes, all administered by the Department of Immigration Services. The Nairobi metropolitan area is the primary destination for expatriates and offers an established international school ecosystem, private healthcare facilities, and direct international flight connections. Cost of living is moderate by regional standards. Foreign nationals must register with local authorities and comply with permit renewal requirements. Kenya has no territorial income tax; residents are taxed on Kenya-sourced income.
