Gambaran umum ekonomi & industri
Mali is a landlocked, low-income country in West Africa whose economy is anchored by agriculture (primarily cotton) and gold mining, which together account for roughly 80% of export earnings. Real GDP grew 5.0% in 2024, supported by strong cotton output and expansion in the mining sector. The country relies heavily on foreign aid and remittances, with the informal sector accounting for a large share of economic activity. Mali possesses significant natural resources including gold, lithium, iron ore, and bauxite, but ongoing security challenges and political instability continue to constrain investment and development. Approximately 80% of the labour force is engaged in farming and fishing, and economic activity is concentrated along the Niger River corridor.

Mali participates in the BRVM (Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières), a regional exchange headquartered in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, serving eight WAEMU member states. The BRVM is fully electronic and accessible via licensed brokerage members (Sociétés de Gestion et d'Intermédiation, SGIs) located across member states including Bamako. Foreign investors may open accounts through BRVM-licensed SGIs; the exchange moved to T+2 settlement in December 2025. Direct US-broker access to BRVM equities is not available; international investors typically use regional platforms such as Daba Finance or engage a licensed SGI directly. Only one Mali-domiciled company (Bank of Africa Mali, ticker BOAM) is currently listed on the BRVM.

Mali is classified as a high-risk country due to ongoing security threats from armed groups and terrorism, particularly in northern and central regions. The government operates under a transitional military-led administration following coups in 2020 and 2021. Most Western governments advise against non-essential travel. Expatriate business presence exists primarily in Bamako; formal residency permits are available through standard immigration channels but no investment-based fast-track pathway exists.
