Mali is a landlocked, low-income frontier economy in West Africa whose output is driven primarily by agriculture—especially cotton—and gold mining, making it one of Africa's top three gold producers. The country is a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and shares the CFA franc with seven regional peers. Economic growth reached approximately 5.0% in 2024, supported by agricultural output, extractive industries, and the nascent start of lithium production. Mali is among the world's least developed countries, with widespread subsistence farming, high poverty, significant dependence on foreign aid, and persistent security challenges stemming from ongoing conflict in parts of the country. The country participates in the BRVM, the regional stock exchange serving all eight WAEMU member states, rather than maintaining its own national bourse.

Mali does not have a standalone national stock exchange. Malian-domiciled companies are listed on the BRVM (Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières), headquartered in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, which serves all eight WAEMU member states. Foreign investors can access BRVM-listed securities through licensed BRVM dealing members (Sociétés de Gestion et d'Intermédiation, or SGIs) in any WAEMU country or via select international brokers and fintech platforms (e.g. Daba Finance, MyStocks.Africa) that provide BRVM access. Direct foreign ownership of BRVM equities is permitted; however, capital repatriation and currency conversion may be subject to BCEAO (Central Bank of West African States) regulations.
