Nigeria is Africa's largest economy by nominal GDP and most populous nation, with an economic base anchored in oil and gas extraction, telecommunications, financial services, agriculture, and a rapidly growing consumer sector. Crude oil and natural gas account for the majority of government revenues and foreign-exchange earnings, while the non-oil economy (particularly telecoms, fintech, trade, and cement manufacturing) has expanded significantly. Structural reforms enacted from 2023 onward, including the removal of fuel subsidies and liberalisation of the foreign-exchange regime, have generated short-term inflationary pressure while aiming to stabilise the macroeconomic framework over the medium term. The Nigerian Exchange (NGX), founded in 1960, is one of Africa's oldest and largest equity markets, hosting over 150 listed companies across diverse sectors.

Foreign investors can access NGX-listed equities through local Nigerian stockbrokers registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission Nigeria (SEC-NG) and clearing via the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS). Several international brokers offer OTC or ADR access to Nigerian-domiciled or dual-listed stocks. Capital repatriation is subject to CBN foreign-exchange regulations and may require documentary evidence of inward remittance.

Nigeria does not operate a formal golden visa or residency-by-investment programme. There is no statutory framework granting permanent residency or citizenship in exchange for a qualifying capital investment by foreign nationals.

Foreign nationals relocating to Nigeria typically require a Subject to Regularisation (STR) visa converted to a Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC), sponsored by a Nigerian employer or company. CERPAC is renewable annually. Nigeria does not have a passive-investment or self-sponsored residency pathway as of 2025.
