As a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU/UEMOA), it is served by the regional Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières (BRVM), headquartered in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, which maintains a national office (Antenne Nationale de Bourse) in Bissau. No Guinea-Bissau-domiciled company is currently listed on the BRVM. International retail investors wishing BRVM exposure typically access it via regulated West African brokers (Sociétés de Gestion et d'Intermédiation, SGIs) licensed by the CREPMF. As of historical record, no SGI was registered in Guinea-Bissau itself. Access for non-resident investors is limited and operationally complex.

Foreign nationals wishing to reside in the country must follow standard immigration procedures, including application for residency permits through the Directorate of Immigration. The country is classified as low-income by the World Bank, with limited formal public services and infrastructure. Portuguese is the official language. The country has experienced recurring political instability, including a coup d'état in November 2025.
