Lithuania is a small, open, upper-middle-income EU economy and eurozone member that has transitioned from a Soviet-era industrial base to a diversified services and manufacturing-led economy. Key industries include petroleum refining, food processing, information technology, furniture and wood products, textiles, and energy. The country is home to a growing fintech and startup ecosystem, with Vilnius emerging as a regional hub; three unicorn companies (Vinted, NordSecurity, and Baltic Classifieds Group) have origins in Lithuania. The economy recorded nominal GDP of approximately USD 84.8 billion in 2024, with real GDP growth of around 2.4%, supported by private consumption and services exports. Lithuania joined NATO and the EU in 2004 and adopted the euro in 2015, providing macroeconomic and currency stability.

Foreign-investor access

Lithuania is an EU and Schengen Area member with a eurozone currency. It offers a Startup Visa for qualifying foreign entrepreneurs, a Digital Nomad Visa, and an investor-linked residence permit via active business creation. Vilnius is recognized as a growing fintech and technology hub; the Bank of Lithuania has issued a significant number of electronic money and payment institution licenses to foreign fintechs. Cost of living is among the lower tiers in the EU, though wages have risen sharply in recent years. English proficiency is widely available in business and tech circles.
