Panorama económico e industrial

Cyprus has a high-income, services-dominated economy in which tourism, financial and professional services, shipping, and real estate collectively account for the overwhelming majority of GDP. The services sector contributes close to 80% of GDP and employs more than 70% of the labour force, while industry and construction account for roughly one-fifth and agriculture for about 2% of GDP. Having recovered from a severe banking crisis in 2012–2013, the economy has posted consistent growth, maintained fiscal surpluses, and reduced its public debt-to-GDP ratio steadily since 2016. Cyprus adopted the euro on 1 January 2008, is a full EU member, and benefits from a favourable tax regime that has attracted substantial foreign corporate and financial activity. Emerging offshore natural gas reserves in its exclusive economic zone (Block 12 and others) represent a prospective long-term economic driver.

Acceso a brókers locales

Retail access to CSE-listed equities is primarily through Cypriot and Greek brokers (e.g., Hellenic Bank Securities, USB Bank, Marfin Popular Brokerage, Eurobank Cyprus). Several international online brokers (DEGIRO, Interactive Brokers) provide access to CSE securities, though liquidity on the exchange is thin and bid-ask spreads can be wide. Settlement follows a T+2 cycle. There are no US-traded single-country Cyprus ETFs; exposure is typically obtained via broad frontier or European frontier multi-country products. Bank of Cyprus Holdings (BOCH) has previously listed on the London Stock Exchange (delisted September 2024) and Athens Stock Exchange.

Subvenciones Permanent Residency (non-EU, renewable / permanent permit; not citizenship)

Cyprus cancelled its Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP) in November 2020 following EU scrutiny. A Permanent Residency by Investment programme (Category F / Fast-Track PR) remains in operation: non-EU nationals may obtain permanent residency by purchasing real estate with a minimum market value of €300,000 (plus VAT). The permit is permanent but does not automatically confer citizenship. A separate standard long-term residency route is available for those demonstrating sufficient financial means without an investment threshold.

Acceso para inversores extranjeros

Cyprus is an English-speaking EU member state with a well-established expat community, relatively low crime, and a Mediterranean climate. Non-domiciled individuals benefit from a favourable income-tax regime: foreign-source dividends and interest are exempt from Special Defence Contribution (SDC) for up to 17 years. A 60-day tax residency rule allows non-dom status with limited physical presence. The Non-Dom programme and the Day-60 scheme are popular with high-net-worth individuals and digital professionals. Cost of living is moderate by Western European standards. The healthcare system includes both public (GESY / GHS since 2019) and private facilities.
