Tunisia is a North African economy with a diversified base spanning manufacturing (textiles, electronics, automotive components), tourism, agriculture (olives, cereals, dates), phosphate mining, and hydrocarbons. Real GDP reached approximately USD 53.4 billion in 2024 (World Bank), with growth of around 1.4–1.6 percent that year, constrained by drought, high public debt, and external financing challenges. Inflation averaged around 7 percent in 2024, easing gradually as global commodity prices softened and the central bank maintained a tight monetary stance. Tunisia is classified as a frontier market by both MSCI and FTSE Russell; its stock exchange (BVMT) remains relatively small relative to GDP, with banking and financial services dominating listed-company capitalization. Structural challenges include high youth unemployment, a large informal sector estimated at roughly 50 percent of the economy, rising public debt, and significant reliance on state-owned enterprises.

The BVMT is not directly accessible through most international retail brokers. Tunisia does not operate a formal golden visa or citizenship-by-investment programme. Foreign nationals may obtain residency through employment contracts, business establishment, or property ownership under general immigration rules administered by the Ministry of Interior. Currency controls are in place; amounts exceeding approximately 25,000 TND must be declared at customs, and re-export of foreign currency above 5,000 TND requires documentation.
