Croatia is a high-income EU member state with a diversified economy anchored by tourism, manufacturing, energy, and financial services. Tourism alone accounts for an estimated 20–25% of GDP, driven by the Adriatic coastline and the historic Dalmatian cities. The country adopted the euro in January 2023 and joined the Schengen Area simultaneously, strengthening its integration into the European single market. Key industries include shipbuilding, chemicals, food and beverages, ICT services, and construction materials. EU structural and cohesion funds continue to support infrastructure modernisation and energy transition investments.

Croatian equities are traded in euros on the Zagreb Stock Exchange (ZSE). Direct access for international retail investors is limited; most foreign investors gain exposure through European brokers with access to the ZSE, or through regional frontier/emerging-market funds. Interactive Brokers and some European online brokers offer ZSE access. Settlement follows a T+2 cycle. There are no dedicated US-listed single-country Croatia ETFs; exposure is obtained through broader Southeastern European or frontier-market funds.

Croatia joined the Schengen Area and adopted the euro in January 2023. EU/EEA citizens may reside freely; non-EU nationals must obtain a temporary residence permit. A 'digital nomad' long-stay visa (up to one year, renewable) was introduced in 2021 for non-EU remote workers meeting income thresholds. Croatia's cost of living is below the EU-27 average, particularly outside Zagreb and coastal tourist centres.
