The SEM operates a CDS (Central Depository System) for settlement. Foreign investors must use a licensed investment dealer (stockbroker) to open a CDS account and place orders. Settlement is currently T+3, with plans to move to T+2. Local licensed brokers include MCB Stockbrokers (part of MCB Capital Markets), SBM Securities, Swan Securities, and several others listed on the SEM website. No US-listed ADRs exist for Mauritian companies. International access via Interactive Brokers is available; US-domiciled retail brokers may restrict accounts once a Mauritius address is registered. The iShares FM ETF (formerly the main single-instrument frontier market vehicle with Mauritius exposure) was liquidated in January 2025.

Foreign investors face virtually no restrictions on portfolio investment in SEM-listed companies, except that approval is required for acquisitions exceeding 15% of shares in a sugar company.
